Just A Gent's mix of wave crashing electronic melodies and organic vocals still have my ears ringing with sounds from the early days of dubstep. The 'King of #lovetronica' topped off my glass with a full serving of class and bass.
Impeccably dressed and stylishly inclined, the 19-year-old Australian, Jacob Grant, has officially debuted his US & Australian tour with a performance at Brooklyn's Baby's All Right. The self taught, genius remixer first gained radio attention on Australia's Triple J Friday Mix with his 4 string remix of Kid Cudi's 'Day n Night' which shocked the soul with its deadly innovative arrangement. Just A Gent's debut EP, 'Stories To Tell' is the embodiment of #lovetronica, with a side of dubstep, and an extra large cup of temple trap.
While the peeling walls of ongoing construction weren't the best look for the venue, Jacob took over the room with his energy, presence, and giddy gentle smile. Not shy about bringing the sounds of Australia to NYC, he rocked dubstep native Alison Wonderland, Melbourne singer/songwriters LANKS and Melissa Ramsey (from his title track "Heavy as a Heartbreak"), and balanced the night out with a little bit of 21 Pilots and Daft Punk.
Move over Flux Pavillion, the future is an Aussie by the name of Just A Gent.
