Top Buzzing Artist - Masego / by Eric Lum

The Tastemakers have been talkin’ this month and the Artist that is playing in a lot of these influential ears is singer/saxophonist/trap-scatter - Masego.

Masego is fanum's Top Buzzing Artist of January. He is an Artist that has successfully bridged the gap between a modern fad and a classic sound. The name ‘Masego’, as he describes, comes from the Tswana word for ‘blessing.’

Well suited.

Masego brings a genre that, safe to say, has never been seen before - trap jazz. This trap jazz is an integration of modern ‘trap’ music (lots of bass and electronic sounds) and some classic jazz elements like saxophone solos and ‘scatting’.

This innovative Artist, has been putting music on SoundCloud for over a year now including remixes, originals and collabs with other newbies. Masego’s spark, and initial buzz, is coming through his somewhat recent release, ‘The Pink Polo EP,’ which is a collaborative project with major up and coming producer Medasin.

The ‘Pink Polo EP’ is a brilliant combination of old school jazz vibes and trap/electronic production. The breaks of saxophone solos, heavy bass, old-school dance-able vibes and themes of dropping technology and going back to real human contact, brings back music with feeling.

Masego is picking up steam making subtle appearances on fellow Artists tracks like Khary, ABIR and even GoldLink. This trap-house jazz is about to become much more familiar to the general public and that is for sure a blessing.

Masego was introduced to by our Tastemaker Sam Nelson and here is her favorite Masego track that she cannot NOT dance to.
