This week's New Artist is Los Angeles based rapper/singer A.Chal.
A.Chal (short for Alejandro Chal) is a Peruvian born artist who immediately caught our attention when he was added this week by Tastemaker Michelle Kim.
He first came on to the scene with his EP Ballroom Riots in 2013. The EP created some buzz around his sound, and landed him a publishing deal with Sony/ATV. After the release of his EP however, Chal ventured down the well-worn artistic path of disappearing without a trace in order to further solidify their sound.
Then, in February, following a two year hiatus, Chal cleared all his past music from SoundCloud, along with his social media channels, and premiered his brand new track "GAZI," co-produced by the Grammy nominated producer Count Justice The song is an ambient, dark, soulful track that not only shows promise for A.Chal's ability to produce, but his vision as a whole.
A.Chal continued the comeback with another new release this summer called "Round Whippin," a track that has been endorsed by publications like EarMilk, Hot New Hip Hop and FADER as a classic L.A. summer song with a twist.
Based on the solid new music, and the buzz surrounding A.Chal, we think his big break into the mainstream isn't far off, but if you want to decide for yourself, you can check out his latest work here.
